What a busy, whirlwind of a weekend! I hope yours was a marvelous as mine!
I didn’t get a chance to type up a blog post over the weekend, and am just now finding time on Monday.
The weekend began Friday afternoon when John and I headed out of town. We were excited to head back to our old stompin’ grounds – The University of Alabama.
We both attended U of A and it is where we met and fell in love. (Awww…right? 😉 ) It will always hold a special place in my heart, for that reason, and many other wonderful experiences I had there.
We had plans to attend the gymnastics meet on Friday night. They are always so fun! The university does a really good job of making meets interactive and very entertaining. Not to mention the fact that the team is usually highly nationally ranked (#7 as of Friday night)! This meet was agains The University of Florida, who is ranked #5 in the nation.
We were also super pumped because we had some much anticipated dinner plans. Pita Pit!!!
This was one of our FAVORITE places to grab a meal from when we were in college. We probably ate there at least once a week. Seriously…so good! I got a turkey pita filled with lettuce, tomato, and a smear of hummus. Mmmm!
During the meet, John stood up and happened to look down our row. At the far end of our row was John’s cousin, her husband, and their cute little girl, Mary Emma! What are the odds?! They live in town and Mary Emma loves her some gymnastics! It was good to be able to chat with them for a while.
After the meet, we were excited to drive around campus some and see all the changes that have taken place since we were in school. After driving around for a while, we decided to head to the hotel to check in.
My old sorority house and home for a couple of years.
This is where it gets interesting. Let’s just say the hotel room was less than stellar. 😦 Needless to say, the hotel room was good motivation to get up and going earlier in the morning!
Saturday, after showers and breakfast, we headed out to do a little shopping and poking around. Lunch was grab and go – Checkers for John and Subway for me. After lunch, we headed to the next planned event of our trip.
We headed to the brand new indoor tennis courts. My husband is an outstanding (it’s ok to be a bragging wife, right?) tennis player. He opted out of playing at the college level, and instead was the manager and racquet stringer (this is a HUGE job, more than I realized) for the men’s tennis team at Alabama. He even received some scholarship to do the job.
He was excited to head back, see the new facilities, and watch a match. The match began at 1 and ended up finishing around 4. It was a really good time, and I loved watching John in his element.
After the match and another stop or two in town, we made the hour and a half drive back home.
Sunday began, per usual, with church. After church and lunch, we had a project to finish up. I absolutely love the end result!
The night concluded with lesson plans (uuuggghhh!), cleaning up a bit, grocery shopping, and food prep.
A fun and eventful weekend!
1. What is one thing you HAVE to do when you return to your college campus?
2. When was your last weakend getaway? What did you do?
3. Olympics? Been watching? Thoughts? We’ve had it on in the background while doing other things. I personally think there’s too much ice skating! I love to watch the skaters, but I’m interested in seeing other events too!
