This weekend was BBLLLAAAAAHH. Let me explain…
Back up to Christmas Eve – before the Christmas Whirlwind began – I woke up with a horrible sore throat. You know, the kind where it feels like you’re swallowing knives? Anyway, since that was the only symptom I really had, I went on with my day.
Confession: I’m the person who takes thinks I can get over any sickness if I just keep ignoring it. Throat hurts? It’ll probably go away soon. Stuffy nose? Just keep blowing it, and it’ll go away eventually. Headache? Keep doing what you’re doing, and I’m sure it’ll see itself to the door soon.
Well, needless to say, the sore throat didn’t go away, it just got worse. Yesterday, I sucked it up and admitted I was wrong…and sat in the waiting room at the local walk-in medical clinic for 2+ HOURS!!! (hence, the reason I don’t go to the doctor). After a marathon waiting sesh, I finally saw the doctor (for like 2 minutes, I might add). The real reason I went in was because after doing a little googling of my symptoms, I was afraid I might have the flu. Turns out, I just have a really bad respiratory (sinus) infection.
These 2 have become my bestest friends:
After the doctor’s visit, we proceeded to eat lunch and lounge around the house all day. The hubs isn’t feeling so hot either. 😦 Resting is NOT something I’m good at. And seeing I also got a steroid shot at the doctor, I was feeling much better! But, my sweet (and usually annoyingly correct) husband insisted that I continue to rest and not overdo it.
So, the rest of the day looked something like this:
Hot tea in a Christmas gift from one of my sweet kiddos. Yep, it’s corny and I kinda like it.
Confession: I usually don’t use, and end up giving away most of the stuff I get as Christmas gifts from the kids. Gasp!
Shortly after this picture, I had to step away because I was about to quit. Why do I love to do things that frustrate me?
I woke up feeling much better Sunday. I wasn’t necessarily hungry for breakfast, but knowing that good food heals the body, I had no trouble finishing off a bowl of oats topped with lotsa berries.
The remainder of the morning was spent watching Say Yes to the Dress and browsing blogs and pinterest.
Around noon, our tummies started rumbling. The hubby didn’t quite know what he wanted for lunch, since someone around here needs to go to the grocery story.
I began scouring the pantry and fridge, and came up with a mighty yummy lunch if I do say so myself.
That’s John’s plate. I can’t stomach soft drinks very much due to tummy issues. Sad day! 😦
The puzzle has yet to be finished. Ha..who’m I kidding. I’ve attempted this puzzle before, and ended up putting it back on the box because it sat unfinished on the coffee table so long!
Sunday evening was spent food prepping for the week, watching some tv from our ridiculously overloaded DVR and hanging with my favorite guy.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are in store for a Marvelous Monday!
(since NYE and New Year’s Day fall in the middle of the week, hopefully you have a a day or two off of work! :-))
Happy Friday Morning!
Is anyone else ridiculously confused as to what day it is? I kept thinking yesterday was Monday ALL day. Not that I’m complaining that it’s Friday, just saying.
I’m linking up with the lovely Claire for Five Things Friday.
1. Delish Christmas lunch.
2. Chinese pasta salad. One of my favorite dinners ever!
3. Mediterranean Quesadillas, dipped in salsa. YUM. Picture the filling below in a tortilla and toasted to perfection.
5. Kashi Dark Chocolate Oatmeal cookies
1. Nike Fit Club workouts. I love these because I love that they move quick and there are a variety of types of workouts to choose from. I typically choose the lower impact toning workouts. For the time being, I’m avoiding high impact workouts.
2. Barre videos
3. Circuit workouts via Julie. I love her collection of at-home workouts.
5. Pilates videos via Fitness Blender – this is another great site for at home workouts.
1. Getting to snuggle with my niece, Kennedy.
2. Setting an alarm clock because I WANT to, not because I HAVE to. Being a teacher is certainly one of the hardest jobs, but…there ARE perks. Like Christmas break!
3. Celebrating this one’s birthday.
4. Texting with my siblings. They’re hilarious.
5. Eating my breakfast AND lunch in peace, no kids, no noise. I can eat as slowly as I want. No 22 minute lunches in my near future. #teacherproblems
What are you looking forward to over the weekend?
What is something that made you happy this week?
First, I must tell you that my lunch date with the birthday boy was wonderful! Nothing better than getting to see my hubby in the middle of the day. What a treat! Tonight, I’ve got big things in store…fried rice and chicken with leftover chocolate birthday cake! Plus, I’m going to let him pick what tv show we watch. I know what you’re thinking… how am I ever going to top this next year?! I honestly don’t know.
Christmas Recap Part duex
After cleaning up and showering, the rest of John’s family arrived. Grandparents, Aunt and Uncle, cousins and cousins’s kids.
We had a yummy Christmas (late) lunch
Followed by some delicious desserts.
Post-lunch, it was time for Mary Emma (John’s cousin’s daughter) to break into her gifts. She just couldn’t wait any longer. John got practice with future little ones…
And his little helper couldn’t have been more elated with the outcome.
Isn’t she just the cutest?!
That, however, didn’t keep her interest long. She soon pawned the babies off on me to watch while she got down with a little rock n roll.
Not too long after, John’s mother requested that the boys break out the guitars for some Christmas carols. Being that she is a retired elementary music teacher and leads the choir at church, I suppose it was only natural. I, on the other hand, kept my mouth closed and took pictures. You do NOT want to hear what comes out when I try to sing.
Mary Emma, of course, needed to sing with the band.
We finally packed up and headed out to make the 2 and a half hour drive back home around 7 pm. It was a super fast trip, just over 24 hours, but it was a great Christmas, and we were sad to leave!
But…now I have a birthday to celebrate! I’d better go before the birthday boy beckons!
And, to leave you with the cuties, because seriously, who wouldn’t want to see this?
I hope you had a fabulous Christmas with family and friends! I am definitely blessed!
Tell me about your Christmas!!!
Do you have little ones that make get togethers hilarious?!
Good Morning!!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Day! We certainly did. I’m so blessed by my sweet, sweet family.
Our Christmas whirlwind began on Christmas Eve. My husband recently started a new job, and being that he is low on the chain of command, he only gets a 1/2 day on Christmas Eve and all Christmas Day off. To throw a wrench in things, his birthday is also TODAY…December 26th.
We left to drive about 2.5 hours north to his hometown. This year, we spent Christmas with John’s parents (we did get to celebrate for a few hours with my family – who only live about an hour from us – on Sunday afternoon). Once we arrived, a birthday celebration was on the agenda. Since we had to drive back home last night, we celebrated John’s birthday with his family on Christmas Eve.
He racked up a pretty loot for his kayak. I had quite the excited husband on my hands.
After presents, we dug into the chocolate cake, made by yours truly. I got all good reviews! I hope they were honest, not just being kind. But, seriously, would you tell someone if their cake didn’t live up to expectations? Whatever, I’ll take it! 😉
My Christmas day began MUCH later than I’m used to. Growing up the oldest of 5, I grew up waking up at the crack of dawn, thanks to excited brothers and sisters. And honestly, I love it!! It’s such a fun, excited time. Anyway, I woke up about 8, made my way to the kitchen to fix a bowl of oatmeal and coffee. The in-laws trickled in around 9, and I helped prepare breakfast for the others. About 10, the rest of the house awakened. We finally got to “Santa” and gifts around 11:15.
It was SUPER exciting to be a part of this little one’s first Christmas!
Aren’t they the cutest little family?!
We all received WAY too much; Santa was very good to us this year!
Sorry for the blur. Oops.
My favorite part of the gift giving process is seeing others open what I give them. I’m the person who loves to find JUST the perfect gift for each person. Sometimes it causes me a headache, but in the end, it’s all worth it.
My husband loves giving just as much as I do. In fact, he’s often upset that we can’t give more! He clearly spent WAY too much on me, even after I threatened many mean things if he bought this…
But, I’m not giving it back. Just saying, he really shouldn’t have. But I.LOVE.IT!!! I’m a lucky girl!
Post-Santa, it was time to clean up and shower in preparation for grandparents and cousins to arrive. And, I think I’ll wrap up recap numero uno.
I’ve got to jump in the shower and get a few things ready before I meet the birthday boy for a birthday lunch date!
This morning, I was sneaky and woke up while John was in the shower. I prepped a special birthday breakfast…
I slaved away over the microwave for a good 45 seconds preparing this meal. Seriously, Jimmy Dean mini sausage biscuits ain’t no joke. And they are also my hubby’s fave…with mustard. Gag! But, what the birthday boy wants, he gets!
I also braved the frigid cold here in Alabama (under freezing, folks) and started the car for him so he didn’t have to scrape the ice off. I know, wife of the year award.
Before fixing myself some breakfast, I got in a circuit workout that left me pretty smelly. Lovely image to leave you with. 😉
Ok, now I’m really off to get ready for my lunch date! I’ll be back with recap #2!
What was the best part about YOUR christmas?
Do you prefer to give or receive?
Welcome to Sarah Sincerely! I’ve been tossing the idea of starting a blog around in my head for a while. I finally decided to bite the bullet and join in on the blogging fun! So, here you have it… Sarah Sincerely!
On this blog, I plan to document life as I know it. I can’t promise it’ll always be interesting, glamorous (ha! who am I kidding), or worth your time, however, I hope you’ll find something you like, and stick around.
I love to cook and bake and experiment in the kitchen, although, I am by NO means a chef. I just so happen to love dabbling in the kitchen. I also really enjoy crafting, but again, am NOT one of those people who can make something magical from a milk jug. I just like trying to attempt (and usually fail!) what I see on Pinterest. Another passion of mine is finding new and different ways to stay fit and live a healthy lifestyle.
Although I briefly touch on it on my About page, I’m learning to live sincerely and genuinely. I am Type A all the way, a people pleaser, and a perfectionist. However, I’m discovering that truly living as ME is what makes me, and usually others too, happiest!
